Because you don’t share your employer’s religion

Your CEO is deeply religious.

He’s so committed to his religion that he thinks of it as the one, true, moral way of life.

He doesn’t even think of it as a religion, he thinks of it as the truth.

It never occurs to him that there might be other good ways of life.

You don’t share your CEO’s religion.

You’re not religious, or you follow your own religion.

It doesn’t matter to you that your CEO’s religion differs from your own. You believe that there’s room for a wide range of religions in the workplace. You believe that religious differences shouldn’t prevent people from working together.

It does matter to your CEO that your religion differs from his. He believes that it’s his responsibility to promote his religion within the organization. He believes that people who don’t share his religion are misguided and doomed. He believes that there’s no place for misguided, doomed people in his organization.

You keep very quiet about your religion, or your lack of religion, when you’re at work.
