You once had a friend who was in an abusive relationship.

Her boyfriend beat her. Then he would apologize. Then he would beat her again. Then he would apologize again.

She always made excuses for him. She said he would change. She didn’t want to be alone.

It went on for years, but all along, you knew, and, eventually, she knew, there was only one thing to do.
